Washed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore Where am I Who am I And why is everything made of blocks But there isn t much time to soak up the sun It s getting dark, and there s a strange new world to explore The top priority is finding food The next is not becoming food Because there are others out there on the island like the horde of zombiWashed up on a beach, the lone castaway looks around the shore Where am I Who am I And why is everything made of blocks But there isn t much time to soak up the sun It s getting dark, and there s a strange new world to explore The top priority is finding food The next is not becoming food Because there are others out there on the island like the horde of zombies that appear after night falls Crafting a way out of this mess is a challenge like no other Who could build a home while running from exploding creepers, armed skeletons, and an unstoppable tide of hot lava Especially with no help except for a few makeshift tools and sage advice from an unlikely friend a cow.In this world, the rules don t always make sense, but courage and creativity go a long way There are forests to explore, hidden underground tunnels to loot, and undead mobs to defeat Only then will the secrets of the island be revealed.

4 of 5 stars at The BiblioSanctum bibliosanctum 2017 08 27 I never thought I d see a book like this, brought to us by the author of World War Z no less A month ago, if you had floated me the idea of a Minecraft novel adaptation, I would have laughed and said it would never fly I mean, what would it even be about Won t it just end up being a three hundred page instruction manual on how to play the game Well, apparently yes and no This first and only official Minecraft novel , trumpets the publish [...]

Terrible Just terrible The second I heard Brooks on NPR peddling his new book, I put it at the top of my short list I loved World War Z, The Zombie Survival Guide and The Harlem Hellfighters, so I assumed that I would enjoy this too I was wrong This book was so boring and the writing was sophomoric at best This is a first person narration with a single character a la The Martian except without being enjoyable It is so bad that I am refusing to believe that Brooks actually wrote it I am hoping th [...]

I loved this first person written story of survival in the Minecraft universe. It was everything I felt the first time I played Minecraft outside creative mode We were early adopters of Minecraft and played the beta version in the long ago times when there were no guide books or internet cheats to tell you what you could and couldn t eat Max Brooks takes the reader inside Minecraft where you are right there with him as he discovers how to survive and that eating raw meat in the Minecraft universe [...]

Minecraft La isla, como idea para novela es algo escasa, porque no tiene mucho que desarrollar al menos, el estilo narrativo de Max Brooks consigue atrapar al lector lo suficiente como para avanzar.Rese a completa en THE BEST READ YET BLOG

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes Minecraft It provided new theories about the game and guides.

I don t think I was the right person for this book I mean I have put in TONS of hours playing, but I m not super obsessed with all things Minecraft You either need to know a bare minimum of facts about Minecraft or be obsessed to really enjoy this book.

While it wasn t terrible, I felt a little misled by the Max Brooks part of this equation I guess I shouldn t have expected World War M At any rate, I read this because my son is big into the game and I wanted to have something we could share This was way Y than A than most books and was almost a game guide at points Very hard to read something that is telling you describing to you how to manage inventory There was one truly laugh out loud moment when you meet the animals for the first time and [...]

The first official Minecraft book is here I really loved it and it was one of those books that you just can t put downit was actually so good it stopped me from reading probably my most favorite series, Michael veyit was a bit unoriginal so I m going with 4 5 stars

This book I would read over and over and over If i could only read one book for a whole year, it would be this one In the first chapter, there is so much feeling page by page And the true survival story This book represents Minecraft in the best possible way In each chapter, the main nameless character learn a important survival lesson Also these lessons are the type that you can relate back to your own life Example Even if someone looks like you doesn t meen that they are not a friend. All that [...]

I really enjoyed reading World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War, so when I saw this book at our local library, I immediately borrowed it for our Minecraft obsessed daughter She liked the book, and I really didn t think much about it.That is, until I listened to the Nerdist podcast where Chris Hardwick interviewed Mr Brooks again and I knew I had to check out the audiobook it s narrated by Jack Black One of the fascinating things I learned by listening to the podcast is that there s anoth [...]

I think this book will be great for a select audience My 6yo and 9yo loved it but I think anyone deeply immersed in the world of Minecraft or outside of it will be disappointed.

    Erick

I liked this book because of the survival feature and my favorite part was the main character s friend Moo I hope the author makes another book in the series to show him leave the island.

    Sarah

I read this with my 8 year old son It was definitely orientated toward juveniles My son liked it.

    Maximilian Lee

I liked this book because it was very realistic in the character exploring Minecraft The character was very realistic by telling how he couldn t breath, or when he was starving and when he was losing hearts The book was also a lot realistic than books by Winter Morgan I also liked this book because I liked the way Max Brooks expressed the character s feelings in Minecraft Max Brooks expressed the character s feelings by saying like he felt devastated.

Small warning I have never played Minecraft, so any in jokes or highly specific references are going to go straight over my head. But the name Max Brooks was enough to get me interested in Minecraft The Island, the first official novel based on the popular sandbox video game This book literally feels like what would happen if a hapless human being who is kept something of a blank slate was transported into the world of Minecraft and had to fumble his way through surviving there It s not a spectac [...]

I really enjoyed this book It s got plenty of humor, emotions, life lessons, suspense, friendship, and a good ending I m hoping there will be another book This brought new life to minecraft for me I thought it was a boring game But threw this book it kinda makes me want to play it Although I haven t really played it before It has you laughing a good few times, which I enjoyed This was written well too I think the youngsters will enjoy it too Have fun and enjoy

I was recommended this book off the back of my reviews of the Five Nights at Freddy s novels, but it s really an animal of a different kind While the FNAF novels are designed so that anyone can pick them up and enjoy, the Minecraft novel is clearly written with fans of the games in mind If you ve never played Minecraft before, this book will make no sense whatsoever and so I d strongly advise that you don t waste your time. However, it s difficult for me to understand the appeal of this novel for [...]

This book was a fun read I know nothing about minecraft, the game, except that it has square figures and you build stuff The only reason I wanted to try this is because I love World War Z.The premise of this book is that a character either male or female, entirely up to you is stranded on an island with a different set of rules than our world S he has to figure out how to survive in that world, and figure out the rules there. It s a nice introduction to the game world and an interesting way to la [...]

I had a pretty serious Minecraft addiction for a few years, building a 30,000 block perimeter road around my kingdom that stretched 5,000 blocks east to west and 10,000 blocks north to south Inside this boundary was a modest castle, sixteen fortified villages, a limited overworld subway system, a smaller netherworld subway system, a dozen desert temple homes, four jungle temple homes, an oasis house built around a well, an excavated end portal temple and a completely drained ocean temple, all co [...]

Minecraft is one of those games that I ve struggled with Technically I think that I should be reasonably good at it I mean I love Lego so therefore this should be a walk in the park right Wrong I ve been known to falter many times just on the tutorial level I get the impression reading this book that max Brooks has also experienced this I am aware of Max Brook s work I just haven t read any of it I am not a huge zombie fan I ve seen the original George a Romero s original Night of the Living Dea [...]

I was a little disappointed in the qualify of this book The writing was not up to what I would have expected from a Max Brooks story I think that he was too constrained by Minecraft itself, but I encountered several problems within the story. This is sort of a Robinson Crusoe story, but with a cow instead of Friday Well, a digital construct of a cow, anyway.First, there was nothing to like about the character He s a blank slate, with very little personality at the start of the book Second, many o [...]

Some people seem to be unaware that this book is aimed towards the 8 12 year old age group LOL I get it I had to check after realizing that the author of one of my favorite zombie novels wrote this Anyhow, my 11 year old son and I thoroughly enjoyed this book and after finding out that the audio version is read by Jack Black, we may try that, too Two aspects keep me from giving this 5 stars, the first being that sometimes situations are resolved or glossed over too quickly and easily This book w [...]

Relatively short for a Young Adult Adult novel, at around 250 pages, Minecraft The Island delivers a powerful message of survival and overcoming of the odds This book isn t like any other survival story, with the main character dealing with such emotional conundrums as murdering chickens to sustain his health, or killing off an entire species of oak tree The joy of watching this man work his way up to the top is exhilarating and addicting So is the savage delight Minecraft fans get when they rea [...]

Not at all what I expected Wait What did I expect I m not really sure, but as an older Minecraft player I was curious and actually anticipated the arrival of Max Brooks unconventional take on an already unconventional game In short the book read mostly like a play through of the game Brooks adds some color, but the character is a nameless nobody Boy or girl, man or woman, neither I don t know other than the narrator comes from the perspective of having been human As a player, I learned a few tri [...]
