There are no second chances in life, expect to feel remorse Carlos Ruiz Zaf n The Shadow of the WindQuick clean, read that went until about 87% with Elizabeth still holding strong feelings in defense of Mr Wickham You see, she left Hunsford before Mr Darcy could give her his letter She bolted and ran like the hounds of hell were after her Once in London she happened to meet Wickham, who played with her feelings, affections, friendship and used her good heart against her as he spun his web of lie [...]
This is a fast paced PP what if that re imagines what happened after Mr Darcy s disastrous proposal at Hunsford and squeezes the rest of the story essentially into a few weeks time. Here we are told that Lizzy fled Rosings the morning after DDP H claiming Jane to be ill When Darcy learns of this he is devastated but not as nearly put out as Dear Lady Catherine Alas his letter was not delivered.Lizzy is happy in London and eventually confesses to Jane not just about Darcy s proposal but also Darcy [...]
Other reviewers have mentioned the non Regency behavior lack of appropriate chaperones or protection for young ladies in London , the illogical behavior of Mr Darcy who seems certain that he will encounter Elizabeth in London despite the wide gap between their respective social circles , and Mr Wickham s long period of time in London away from the rest of his militia unit, so I don t need to belabor those criticisms here The premise is an intriguing one Elizabeth bolts from Hunsford the morning [...]
Bachelor the only man who has never told his wife a lie Author UnknownHmmm Wickham is a bachelor isn t he He may not have told his WIFE a lie butThis story happens almost entirely in London Elizabeth leaves Hunsford the morning after the proposal and thus never meets Darcy to receive his letter During her stay with the Gardiners, she happens across both Wickham who has been granted an especially long leave from the militia and Darcy She avoids Darcy but spends many hours with Wickham.Question Ho [...]
In this Pride Prejudice variation, Elizabeth leaves Hunsford the morning after Darcy s proposal and therefore, she does not receive his letter of explanation Luckily, they meet in London and seem to keep bumping into each other This allows Elizabeth to come to see Darcy in a different light even though an active Wickham is working the opposite angle The transformation realization of Elizabeth s regard takes awhile, but is sweet and of course leads to a very nice happy ending.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 starsI have mixed feelings about this story And some of the glitches distracted me from the reading For instance near the end, Darcy asks for all of Elizabeth s dances I am not an expert on Regency rules but I know that even 3 dances is rarely allowed Two mean the couple have serious intentions towards each other and 3 They are engaged The other reviews mention parts of the story in which it seems there are no chaperones or in which they walk long distances to get back [...]
Well written story with an interesting premise and a HEA The only thing I didn t thing likely was Darcy s behavior I can t see him leaving Elizabeth vulnerable to Wickham s manipulations because he didn t want to appear jealous It s not the Darcy we love, though I understand the author needed it for the plot.
